FAQ

What is Reiki?

Reiki (Pronounced – Ray-Key) is a spiritually guided energy connecting to the energy system in your body. Reiki assists in opening up and clearing the energy system in your body to promote healing.

What is a Reiki session like?

Healing is very personal and everyone has had different experiences in their life which directly affect their energy system. Each Reiki session varies depending upon the individual and the healing that is being required. In general, Reiki sessions are very relaxing and comforting. After a brief introduction you will be asked to lay fully clothed on a massage table. You will be covered with a blanket and gentle music will be playing in the background to help you leave your concerns outside. Since I am concentrating on your energy system I do not talk during a Reiki Session unless you initiate it. Many people dose off into a light sleep during the session. Some people feel different sensations and some don’t – both are completely normal! A Reiki session varies so much because it is personalized just for you. Since it is a loving energy source it is always working to heal you for your highest good.

What should I wear?

You are encouraged to wear comfortable clothing, remove glasses, shoes and unnecessary jewelry. Since you remain fully clothed it is important for you to be completely comfortable.

How often should I have a treatment?

Initially, three or four sessions over the first two weeks are recommended. This helps to remove deep-rooted blocks in your energy system. Thereafter, once a week or once every two weeks is recommended, until the issue has resolved. Usually a subtle improvement is noticed even after the first session. It may take five to six visits to notice a marked improvement. Dis-ease generally begins in the energy field so if we keep our subtle bodies healthy using Reiki, and our physical bodies healthy with good nutrition and exercise, we should be able to remain active and whole. Once the initial issue has resolved, most people like to have a Reiki session every 4-6 week, as part of their wellness regime.

What if I’m seeing a Physician, Psychologist or complimentary care provider?

Reiki is a great compliment to what you are already working with your Physician. Reiki does not interfere with medication. Reiki should in no way take the place of licensed medical care. Reiki works jointly with many complimentary treatments such as massage, acupuncture, counseling and physical therapy. I encourage you to share with your physician that you are receiving Reiki so that he/she can take in account as your symptoms and overall wellness may improve.

Do I have to understand what Reiki is for it to work?

Nope! Reiki can be difficult to grasp, which is why experiencing Reiki sessions are the only way to better understand how it can help you. Just like you have a circulatory system and muscle system you have and “energy system”. The more you receive Reiki the more your energy system “remembers” to keeps the pathways clear and not hold onto the emotions, thoughts feeling that are not naturally good for you. If you are open at least to trying it you will receive the energy on some level.

How often should you receive a Reiki treatment?

I could tell you to come once a week, twice a week, every day for a week then… NO! I want to work with you and together we will figure out the best plan for YOU!

If you want to book your next session right after your first then absolutely, let’s do it! If that makes you uneasy, don’t sweat it!

*** Pay attention to how you feel after your treatment, that night and the next day. If you can, continue to try to notice what changes – energetically, emotionally, physically, spiritually – might have taken place. ***

Then there’s the question of why you came for the treatment, and if the treatment had a good effect. If it’s a long-term issue, then perhaps regular Reiki is a good way to heal. If you came in to be more relaxed and centred before a job interview, then unless you have another job interview right away, perhaps your intention can be met in one treatment.

So, really, the easy answer to the question of how often to come for Reiki treatments is: whatever suits you best. Just remember, your energetic health is just as important as your physical health – and often affects it.

Can I receive Reiki during Cancer Treatments?

Yes! We are seeing more and more complimentary care practices at Cancer Centres and local hospitals. Physicians & Nurses are quickly recognizing the benefits of relaxation and healing that can take place during Reiki sessions and the positive affect is has on patients. Some examples, are less pain, less pain medication taken, feeling of comfort, clarity is making decisions, spiritual connection, less nausea and feeling back to normal after treatments. Reiki should be used only as a compliment to your physician treatment plan.

Should I receive Reiki when I have no apparent physical or emotional issues?

Yes, there are always underlying factors that we may not see or feel the surface. I highly recommend experiencing Reiki on a regular basis for general well-being and overall preventative health. Many people use Reiki to help maintain low blood pressure, for better sleep, as relaxation and other preventative measures; like they would their diet, exercise and meditation routines.

Does Reiki have any religious affiliations?

No, Reiki is not connected with any religious organization. Since energy & love are universal so is Reiki. Men & women from all religious backgrounds practice and receive use Reiki.

Is Reiki Covered by Insurance?

At this time Reiki is not covered by Health Insurance companies. In some cases I can work out a payment schedule if necessary. Please just ask.
